A letter delivered to a certain someone's dorm. Can't hack paper.
Dear Ionia.
I'm not sure if either have mentioned it yet, but I had a talk with your mom and dad the other day.
We discussed a lot of things, really, but mostly we talked about you. I know that you think your mom and dad are very grown up. They are. But they've still got a lot of growing up to do.
Heh. I know you think they're about as grown up as you can get. They're good kids.Mostly mature, responsible, and they love you, Ionia. They want to be there for you as much as they can. I don't ever want that to change.
But there's a lot more to being a grown up. See, going to class and living at school and building robots costs a lot of money. Besides that, there's so much more that you....that anyone needs. And your mom and dad aren't old enough for that. It's not their fault. This city has laws and regulations--to have certain things like...a birth certificate. Or citizenship. Things you'll need in the future. Anyway...I know your mom and dad would do everything they could for you. But the fact is, they're still young. They can't give you all of these things, as much as they want to or would like to. They're just...not quite grown-up enough.
Ionia, you're a brilliant girl. I don't want to see any of that go to waste. So I want to help. It's difficult for me to explain the ins and outs of all this, or why this is best, but no matter what, you mean the world to me and I only want what's best for you.
I'm going to be here for you from now on.
I want to watch you grow up.
I know you won't ever call me 'dad'.
I'll come to Thanksgiving maybe.
Anyway, this is...hard for me to say. I'm not very good at explaining things. Maybe you could google "adoption"? It's sad when the internet is better at this than I am.
I'd like to be the adult in your life. If you'll have me, of course. I don't want to replace your mom and dad but I want do what I can for you. You deserve that much.
I should probably stop rambling and quit while I'm ahead. I'll see you in school.
Love,
Falcon Grandpa.
